Travel
Going into my first ever training camp I was eager to know what all the fuss was about. Turns out it lived up to expectations & more. The duration of the time in Calpe, Spain would be two weeks of endurance training. I set off with some Yorkshire lads from Leeds-Bradford Airport direct to Alicante, from there we would transfer by Van to Calpe. Arriving in the evening there wasn't a chance to take in any of the views so that would have to wait till the morning, we did need food however. Luckily the shops were open until 9:30 pm so we managed to walk down to the local Aldi & buy some essentials for the next morning.
Training
The first few days of training were generally steady getting to know our way round the place where I found it was fairly easy. It was good to have guys with us that had already been before and had rides saved on their Garmin's as well, in a way it was a perfectly timed trip as most pro teams were on their December camp also so we could tag along with them on some days. It was nice to see how friendly they all were, having a good chat with a few guys also.
The weather was good most of the time which meant we could make the most of our camp & put some real good miles in, helping towards the 2017 season. One of our longest rides in the saddle was 6 hrs, climbing almost 3000 meters throughout the day. I found through the duration of the time there the hours on the bike flew by. One minute your on 2 hours and the next time you look down you're on 4.
All in all it was worth every penny & would love to go back in the near future if finances allow. Now the real hard work starts as the new season is soon approaching.
Keep you updated.
